Homemade Bed Bug Spray
Bed bugs live on our couches and beds and come out during the night to feed on our blood. Just the thought of it is enough to make one change mattresses instantly. Here are some tips to make homemade bed bug spray you can use to kill the pesky bugs.
Bed bugs are without a doubt one of the most horrendous creatures on the planet, and to most, they are scarier than big predators as well. They live in our couches and beds and come out during the night to feed on our blood.
Well, changing a bed is not a fast or easy job, and neither is calling in exterminators. Sometimes you just have to face these bugs with what you have at home.
Homemade Bed Bug Spray: Mighty Vinegar
One of the easiest ways to kill these pests once and for all is by using vinegar. A ubiquitous and everyday household item, found in pretty much every kitchen, a very small item, but with substantial impacts.
Sometimes called a contact killer, for it kills bed bugs the moment it comes into contact with them, vinegar will kill all in sight. White vinegar is preferred for this remedy.
Just pour it into any old spray bottle, and it fills it up halfway. Fill in the rest using water to maintain a 1:1 ratio. Make sure to tighten the lid, so it does not spill, shake it well to mix and then spray it directly on the bugs that you see.
Also, make sure to spray this on all corners and the entire underside of the mattress. After doing this, wash all your beddings in vinegar and water to kill any hiding in there as well as a precaution.
Vinegar is highly acidic, so it disrupts the nervous system of the bed bugs. It is also widely available and very cheap. The method is super easy and effective for short-term relief, and there is nothing toxic so that it can be used around children and pets.
However, vinegar has a strong smell, which everyone might not be comfortable with. It can also push the pests into hiding further instead of dying.
Some furniture might be damaged in appearance because of the vinegar’s low pH value. Make sure never to mix vinegar with baking soda for it can be explosive and combining it with bleach can release dangerous gases.
Homemade Bed Bug Spray: Essential Oils
Essential oils like lavender, thyme, lemongrass and tea tree oils can be used to kill bed bugs.
Simply mix five to ten drops of these with water, pour it into a spray bottle and spray on the surfaces required.
It can both repel and kill bed bugs because of its natural properties. It can also be used on the body as a repellent, but the concentration of the essential oils should be very little for that use.
Readymade Natural Sprays
If you lack time but still want instant relief from natural substances, there are a handful you could purchase. There is the EcoRader Bed Bug Killing Spray which attacks the bed bugs neuron receptors and gets rid of larvae and eggs too.
The Bye-Bye Bed Bugs and Bed Bug Killer are two other natural sprays which can be used around children and pets without any worry.
A good tip is to use an atomizer instead of a regular spray bottle for it can distribute much finer drops and increases coverage. These remedies, however, will not cure them for that is a very long procedure and will require you to pour these ingredients on every single one, which is not always practically possible.
Other than that, no home remedy will ever eliminate these pests or any other pests. They will only give temporary relief and solutions for the time being. Call The Bed Bug Inspectors when you can’t handle your bed bug infestation.***
